Just finished Gold. Special Olympics edition! RA result: not as strong as Little Bee, but those who enjoy sports fiction, the Olympics, speed cycling or family dynamics will find something to love here.

Read Addicted, to keep up with the patrons. RA result: Zane is one of the most popular urban fiction authors, but this book—one of her first—isn’t as good as more recent work. I’d recommend The Hot Box before this book, but fans of urban fiction will be sated by Addicted, at least for a little while.

Read Tell the Wolves I’m Home. I’m on a bit of a teen character kick, I guess. RA result: a lovely story, well researched by a woman who no doubt lived parts of this (the Bronx Zoo in 1986, for example) and brings an extra bit of humanity and love and heartbreak to the 1980s AIDS epidemic. Great for fans of literary fiction and those who are interested in very realistic fictionalization of this time period.

Read an ARC of The Age of Miracles. RA result: a quick, painless read that toes the line between YA and adult. I deign to recommend it for those who want in depth, strongly developed characters, but for those who want a beach read or something they can read with their kids, this hits the spot.

Recently read The World Without You by Joshua Henkin. RA result: a brilliant, tender novel about the slow and aggressive changes a family can take over the course of a weekend. Excellent for high brow readers looking for something a little more accessible to read at the beach.
